Son of Jacob Swank and Ellen Niswanger. Civil War Veteran who enlisted Feb. 1864-1965 in the 184th Ohio Infantry.

Absolom married Barbara E. Heffleman who had children:(a) Effie Eleanor 1862, (b) Frost 1863, (c) Oscar 1866 and (d) Jacob David 1869 who married Luella Macy).

In 1867 he moved from Ohio to Missouri where he farmed in Cedar County, then the family crossed the plains by ox team in 1880 to Baker, Oregon and then in 1881 to Clark County, Washington where he had an orchard, raised stock and hay.

Married second wife Mary M. Firestone Paynter Thompson on 10 Mar 1872. Absolom Swank went into business with William Smiley and T.M. Franklin when they acquired the Washington Gulch gold mine at Baker Oregon. He was a member of the Ellsworth Post #2 and a member of the G.A.R.
