David Hillis - Lt. Governor of Indiana from 1836-1840 was also part of the Company of Rangers with Williamson Dunn as Captain and David Hillis its first lieutenant in 1813. He later became a civil engineer and surveyed the public lands of Northern Indiana, Michigan and Illinois.
When the state government came into being, he was elected an Associate Judge of the Jefferson Circuit Court. In 1823 he was elected to the State Legislature and was re-elected every succeeding year with one exception, until 1830. In 1837, he was nominated for Lt. Gov. on the ticket with David Wallace and won.
His parents were William Hillis and Jane Carruthers. He married Aelia Werden Abt 1812 and they had two children, Eliza Jane and William C. After her death in 1818, he married Margaret Burke. They had two children, Sarah Margaret and Dr. David Burke Hillis.
