South Carolina Naturalizations records show that William Watt became a United States citizen on April 4th, 1809 after living in the State of South Carolina since 1790, 19 years.

Info submitted by CJ:
The records at Columbia, SC show that one William Watt received a grant of 100 acres of land in Craven (now Fairfield) County on 27 September 1765, and another 100 acres on 12 September 1768. Thus concluding William must have been the first of our family to America since the records show his land grants from whence our family came.

Believing that to be true, beginning with William, he was born near Belfast, Ireland in 1768 and died in Fairfield County, SC in 1851. He and his wife Jane had eight children: Martha, John, Charles, James, William Jr., Jane, Margaret and Thomas.
[Note: no birth dates were given so it is not known if this was birth order of children.]

It does go on to say:
Our family begins with James Watt, fourth child of William Watt, Sr. He was born in 1796 in Fairfield County, SC and died 9 May 1851. He married Margaret Bell, also of Fairfield County, born 14 February 1801, died 6 April 1861.
