Memorial service for Karen Sue Tiegs Whitaker, 59, will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the gymnasium at Wright Elementary School in Coulee Dam. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Whitaker died Tuesday.
She was born in Spokane and grew up on the family farm between Wilbur and Creston, Wash.
She attended school in Wilbur and graduated from Wilbur High School in 1963.
Mrs. Whitaker earned her teaching degree from Eastern Washington State College in 1968 and taught third grade, as well as a multiage second- and third-grade for 31 years, retiring in 1999 from the Grand Coulee Dam School District.
She attended the United Methodist Church in Grand Coulee and was a member of the Grand Coulee Dam, Washington, and National education associations and the Grand Coulee Dam Senior Center.
She married Hal Whitaker in 1999.
Survivors include her husband; her mother and stepfather, Cordie and Glenn Porter; a brother, Keith Tiegs; a sister, Joyce Gumm; stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
