He was born July 5, 1919, in Bronxville, N.Y., to Louis and Elsie Rees.
He served 26 years in the military - first in the New York National Guard, and when World War II broke out, he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps.
Later, when the services split, he stayed with the Air Force. During his World War II service, his B-17 was shot down over Austria. He was a prisoner of war for 18 months at the German prison camp, Stalag 17, until it was liberated at the end of the war. He retired from the Air Force in 1964.
Mr. Rees was then employed as a purchasing agent at Laramie County Memorial Hospital. Later, he was the purchasing agent for the city of Cheyenne until he retired in 1986.
He married Beverly Glynn Whittington on Oct. 7, 1950, in Benton, La.
Mr. Rees was a member of the Retired Officers of America, the Lions Club, Cheyenne Rifle and Pistol Club and Wyoming State Shooting Association.
Mr. Rees was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who is terribly missed by his family. He was the center of our world.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Rees of Cheyenne; a daughter, Peggy Sanders and her daughter, Elizabeth Sanders, both of Cheyenne; a son, Lt. Colonel Rex W. Rees, his wife, Sandi, and their son, Owen, all of Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; a sister-in-law, Rita Rees and niece, Maryann Rees, both of Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y., and a nephew, Kenneth B. Rees Jr., his wife, Margit, and their son, Christopher, all of Denver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Elsie Rees; and his brother, Kenneth B. Rees Sr.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Lakeview Cemetery with the Rev. Delbert Hansen officiating.
Cremation has taken place at Cheyenne Memorial Gardens.
Services are under the direction of Wiederspahn-Radomsky Chapel.
