J.W. Brookhart, one of Cheyenne's oldest and most highly respected citizens, died Monday evening at the home of his son, Dr. L.S. Brookhart, at Cleveland, O.

The remains will arrive here Wednesday night and the funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Thursday, at the Methodist church, with interment at Lakeview.

Mr. Brookhart had been a resident of this city for 32 years. He was engaged in the contracting business and for four years was commander of the Soldiers' and Sailors' home at Buffalo. He was a veteran of the Civil war and took a leading part in G.A.R. activities. His wife died five years ago.

Last August his health failed and he went east to get treatment from his son. He would have been 79 years old next month.

Besides the Cleveland physician, he leaves one son, H.A. Brookhart, and one daughter, Mrs. H.J. Woodman, both of this city.

The news of his demise was received with sincere sorrow throughout the city. "He was a fine, courageous Christian gentleman," said one friend, today. "His passing is a great loss to the community."
