LELAND DWAIN WINTON, 72, of Amarillo, Texas, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Hillside Christian Church Chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 136, between Borger and Fritch. Arrangements are by Blackburn-Shaw Funeral Directors Coulter Chapel, 8310 S. Coulter St., Amarillo.
Dwain was born Oct. 28, 1935, in Borger, to Leland Harris Winton and Lois Smith. On Dec. 15, 1961, he married Brenda Hoffman.
He graduated from Phillips High School and Frank Phillips College. He was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. He retired from work as engineer and superintendant of Natural Gas Pipeline in Fritch after 42 years.
Leland was a loving husband, father and grandfather that will be missed by all. He never met a stranger. He loved working with wood in his shop, welding, boating and spending time at the lake.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Marlene Winton.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Lee Winton and wife Nancy of Dallas; a daughter, Lorie Turner and husband Garry of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Brittany and Braden Turner, both of Amarillo.
