ALLEN McDONALD 99 YEARS OLD

Allen McDonald, Thayer county's oldest citizen died Monday, March 27th, at the home of his son, A.S. McDonald, of this city. He lacked but four months of being one hundred years old.

Mr. McDonald had been in poor health for some time and had been blind for several years. He had made his home with his son for a number of years past.

Allen McDonald was born in Glengarry county, Ontario, on July 19, 1822, and died at Hebron, Nebr., on Marc (sic) 27, 1922, aged 99 years, 8 months and 8 days. He grew to manhood in Canada, coming to the United States in 1864. He settled at Philadelphia, where he worked in the U.S. navy (sic) yard building gunboats.

Mr. McDonald came to Nebraska in an early day, homesteading in Fillmore county in 1871. He came to Hebron in 1885. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Walker, six children being born to them. The two eldest, Willis adn (sic) Anna, with his wife, have preceded him in death. The living children are Angus S., James A., John F. McDonald and Mrs. Mary J. Huston (sic), all of whom reside in Hebron. He also leaves a number of grandchildren and many other relatives and friends to mourn his death.

Funeral services were conducted from the Sacred Heart Catholic church Wednesday morning, Rev. F. Joseph Ress officiating and the remains were laid to rest in Sacred Heart cemetery (sic). - Register-Champion
