Martin's birthdate was 1842. He was the son of Peter and Katherine (Seagraves) Leisenring and was married to Mary (Miller) Leisenring.

MARTIN W. LEISENRING - ADDITIONAL BIO INFORMATION:
1st Defender who enlisted as a Private with the Allen Guards (Company G of the 25th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry) on 18 April 1861. Mustered out after completing his three months' service on 26 July 1861.

Enlisted a second time - this time as a Corporal with Company B of the 47th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on 30 August 1861. Wounded during the Battle of Pocotaligo, South Carolina on 22 October 1862. Mustered out with his regiment (the 47th Pennsylvania) at Charleston, South Carolina at the close of the Civil War on 25 December 1865. Rank at Muster Out: Corporal.
