Stuart E. Bell, a resident of Pierz, died Dec. 25, 2005, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Dec. 28 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pierz with Rev. Gerald Dalseth officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The Pierz American Legion Post #314 conducted military rites.
Stuart E. Bell was born April 13, 1931, in Canandaigua, N.Y. to the late Ernest and Alice (Dewey) Bell. He grew up in Canandaigua, N.Y. and attended the Canandaigua Academy. He entered the U.S. Army on Oct. 20, 1949, and served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War as a master gunner, receiving a bronze star and other decorations. He served two tours of duty in Germany as a communications specialist and retired as a Staff Sergeant on Oct. 31, 1969, to Pierz. Stuart was united in marriage to Carol B. Sporlein on Sept. 1, 1956, in Falls Church, VA. He enjoyed working with wood, making lawn furniture, bird houses and grandfather clocks. Stuart also liked to play cards, grow flowers, take care of his lawn and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Pierz American Legion Post #341.
Stuart E. Bell is survived by his wife Carol B. Bell; sons Joseph Bell and wife Sharon of Pierz and Ernest Bell and wife Joyce of Sauk Rapids; daughters Alicia Schmelzer of St. Cloud and Naomi Dauphinais of Little Falls; 12 grandchildren; brothers David Bell and wife Bernice of Canandaigua, N.Y., Vernon Bell of Columbus, GA, Judson Bell and wife Kathy of Canandaigua, N.Y., Russell Bell and wife Barbara of Syracuse, N.Y.; sister Muriel Patterson of Baldwinsville, NY.; father in-law Philip Tretter of Lastrup; and sister in-law Arlene Smude of Pierz.
Stuart E. Bell was preceded in death by his parents.
Casketbearers were Steve Smude, Phillip Bell, Matt Bell, Robert Bell, Tom Stangl and Ray Dauphinais.
