Thursday, March 9, 1922 - "The following brief testimony of the late Rev. Jared Sweet Tillinghast, who has made his home in my family for about sixteen years, was found among the writings, dated October 2, 1920, with the request that it be published in the papers.

I bear witness to the fact that this gentleman's constant persecutions because of righteousness, for over two years, which culminated in an absolutely false commitment to the New York State Hospital at Central Islip, Long Island and his sudden death in that institution in less than two weeks, which occurred last May.

I am prepared to give a detailed statement of the facts concerning his arrest and the experiences leading up to the absolutely false committal, and also of the facts concerning what occurred in the State Hospital, as I was there four times in one week.

The motto on the Tillingast coat-of-arms reads "Justice Without Fear."
