Burris Jene "B.J." Bood, 77, passed away Friday, Aug. 15, 2008, at his home in Hobbs, NM, surrounded by his loving family. A celebration of his life will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church (200 E. Snyder) with the Rev. David Matkins and the Rev. John Ayers officiating. Visitation will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 with the family present from 4 to 6 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008 at May Funeral Home.

B.J. was born in Waco, Texas, to the late Nader and Gladys Bood. He married Sarah Gaines on July 7, 1949, in Belton, Texas. B.J. was with the Hobbs Fire Department for 29 years, retiring as a Captain. He was a member of the Fellowship of Believers and loved playing the fiddle at church. He also played the fiddle at the Senior Citizen's Centers in Hobbs and Lovington with the Country Gentlemen.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sarah, on March 22, 2001; a daughter, Marla L. Weber; and brothers, Charlie and Clyde "Bobby" Bood.

Mr. Bood is survived by his son, Johnny Bood and wife, Elvia, of Atlanta; daughter, Camille Albus and husband, Mike, of Hobbs; grandchildren, Bryan Bood, Cheryl Nguyen, Allen Bood, Travis Collins, Laura Brock, Samantha King, Dustin Albus, Ashley Ferguson and Andrea Albus; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Nader Bood and wife, Margaret; sisters, Shirley Stebbins and Mollye Click and husband, Don.; and special friend, Helen McGinnis.
