James R. Barber, 63, of Rush County, died Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

Born June 4, 1943 in Connersville, he was the son of Carl and Lavona (Vail) Barber. He married Gretchan Miller Sept. 29, 1962; she survives.

Mr. Barber was a 1960 graduate of New Salem High School and lived in Rush County for more than 30 years. He was a retired farmer. He was also retired from Cummins Engines in Columbus where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a member of Clarksburg Christian Church. He was also a member of Andersonville Lodge No. 96 F.&A.M., where he was a four-time Past Master, Andersonville OES No. 93, Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine.

Survivors in addition to his wife include his mother, Lavona Barber of Rushville; sons, Christopher Barber and Jonathon Barber, both of home; daughters, Maribeth (Mrs. David) Crisp of South Carolina and Nancy (Mrs. Brian) Campbell of Indianapolis; one sister, Betty (Mrs. James) Plue of Rushville; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Moster & Cox Mortuary in Rushville with the Rev. Jerran Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in Rush County's Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Clarksburg Christian Church, the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association c/o the funeral home.
