Robert "Bob" David Crim, Sr., was the third son and seventh child born of the marriage of John Wesley and Minerva Caroline (Rogers) Crim. He was born in rural Shelby County, in the area of Highway 119, west of Moore's Crossroads near Montevallo.

His father had been twice widowed before marrying Minerva, with children from each marriage. Thus, Bob entered the world into a large family of brothers and sisters. From his father's marriage to first wife, Sarah Ann Drucilla Moore, were the following half siblings: Eli, Nancy Elizabeth "Bettie", Peter, and John Akin. From his father's marriage to second wife, Harriet E. Daniel, were the following half siblings: James "Jim" Thomas, William Henry "Henry" and Wesley Lafayette.

Bob's older full siblings were Joshua, Mary Anjaline, Martha Jane "Jane", Abraham (died in infancy), Zillah Catherine, and Ammie Zoniah. He would have one brother born after him -- Jesse Lee.

When still a young man, Bob contracted typhoid fever which is said to have affected his health for the remainder of his life.

Although a 1907 graduate of Cumberland University's Law School in Lebanon, Tennessee, he chose to pursue farming and operation of a sawmill as a profession. He had become disenchanted with law when, according to family history, he was approached about something illegal which he refused to do. He did remain active in local politics and education, serving two terms as president of the Shelby County Board of Education.

After several years of courtship, "Mr. Bob" married Minnie Bell McGiboney from the Columbiana area. They were married on December 12, 1912 with Dr. J. H. Harris officiating. Minnie had been a local schoolteacher in the Ebenezer and Mount Era schools.

The couple set up housekeeping in a small home just down the road (present Shelby County Road 87) from Bob's parents' home. It was a home they would live in until their deaths.

Two sons were born to Bob and Minnie: Robert David "R. D." Crim, Jr., and Forrest Reid Crim.

Bob and Minnie are buried side by side at Harless Cemetery in a family plot with their sons, Forrest Reid and Robert David "R. D.", Jr.-- along with daughter-in-law, Bettye, wife of R. D.
