Stephen Jacob Caudill was the son of John Adams Caudill and Rachel Cornett Caudill. He married Elizabeth Adams on December 12, 1845, in Lee County, Virginia. They were the parents of Minerva Vermillion Caudill (Thompson), Rachel Sims Caudill (Gibson), Martha Jane Caudill (Long), John Dixon Caudill, Sarah Elizabeth Caudill (Day), Selina Catherine Caudill (Adams), and Susan Melinda Caudill (Walters) (Warfe).
