Bill Hastings Cannon, 48, an employee of State Highway Department for the past 19 years, died Sunday at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the First Baptist Church with Reverend Wayne Naugher and Reverend Glen Smith officiating.
Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery with Mallett Funeral Home in charge. Pallbearers included Calvin Fleming, Burrell Caffey, Mike Compassi, Gene Hickey, Bob Neugin, Andy Stockton, Jack Stafford, O. E. Alexander and Bobby Foreman.
Honorary bearers included, Paul Denton, Lloyd Calvert, Vache Buster, Jack Keeling, Bill Burleson, Dickey Herford, Orville Stockton, Billy Joe Cook, and Ed Edmondson.
Mr. Cannon was born October 31, 1928, at Yonkers, Wagoner County, Oklahoma, the son of Thomas Bess Cannon and Bessie Mae (Mitchell) Cannon. He had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was graduated from Wagoner High School in 1947. He was active in sports and attended Connors State College on a football scholarship.
Survivors include his wife, Betty of the home; a son, Billy of the home; three daughters, Mrs. Clara Bake of Wagoner and Kathy and Rhonda both of the home; his mother Mrs. Bessie Cannon, and four brothers, John Walter, VanNoy and Leonard, all of Wagoner; three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Brodie and Mrs. Mary Anderson, both of Wagoner, and Mrs. Clara Parks of Muskogee.
