Raymond Winfield Barlow Jr., 80 of Hendersonville was born Aug. 14, 1927 in Celina, Tenn. and passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008 at the Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin.

Mr. Barlow was a retired U.S. Army veteran having served during WWII, Korea and Vietnam. During his many years of service to his country, Mr. Barlow was awarded numerous medals and ribbons including the Purple Heart, a Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, a Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and five Loops, a WWII Victory Medal, an Army Occupation Medal with Germany Clasp, the National Defense Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a Combat Infantry Man Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, the Honorable Service Lapel Button, an Expert Badge for Machine Gun, Automatic Rifle, Rifle and Carbine Bars, and the Sharp Shooter Badge with Tank Weapon and Pistol Bars.

Mr. Barlow was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ava Barlow, Sr.; and a brother.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret Barlow of Hendersonville; daughters, Liz French and husband Cecil and Maria Thompson and husband Raymond, both of Hendersonville; grandsons, Michael French and wife Nicole of Dallas, Texas and Kyle Thompson and wife Michelle of Hendersonville; granddaughter, Gretta Thompson; and eight sisters. The family would like to say a special thanks to his sister Joyce for all her support and prayers.
