The Servant Of God, Dom Bernardo Regno OSB., was born in Valleremita, Fabriano, Italy, on August 18, 1886 and was ordained to the priesthood at the age of 23 by Bishop Clemente Pagnani OSB.Silv., on December 18, 1909, through the Silvestrine Congregation of the Benedictine Order.

A lifelong missionary in Ceylon since his student years, at the age of 49, Regno was appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Kandy by Pope Pius XI, receiving his episcopal consecration on March 29, 1936, in Bangalore, Indria, from Archbishop Leo Peter Kierkels CP., assisted by Archbishop Auguste-Siméon Colas MEP., and Bishop Henri-Aimé-Anatole Prunier MEP.

Giving a new insight to the Church of the poor throughout his life, Msgr. Regno was known as "The Coolie Bishop" due to his heroic commitment to the evangelization of the poor coolies.

He resigned the pastoral government of his see at the age of 72, on September 24, 1958 and was in turn named as Bishop of the Titular See of Bagai. Aged 84, he also resigned the latter on January 26, 1971, spending his remaining years as a simple monk.

Dom Bernardo died in odour of sanctity after seventy one years of missionary life at the venerable age of 91, on September 2, 1977.

The cause for his beatification is in process.
