Mr. S. F. Webb Dies After Short Illness

S. F. Webb, 89, retired building engineer at North Texas Agricultural College and a resident of Arlington for 35 years, died Friday at the home of his son, Lloyd Webb, after a short illness.

Mr. Webb came to Arlington from Grayson County, where he had operated farms and had driven cattle up the old Chisholm Trail to Kansas. After coming to Arlington, he farmed for a time and worked in cotton gins before he was employed by NTAC. He retired about five years ago.

Other survivors are a son, Will Webb, three daughters, Mmes. T. M. Hall, J. T. Waller and G. A. Moore, all of Arlington; 25 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woods Chapel Baptist Church. Rev. C. H. Watson, pastor, and Rev. S. M. Bennett officiated and burial was in Parkdale Cemetery here.

Spencer Filbeck Webb married Phoebe Catherine McClanahan on June 5, 1871, in Freestone, Texas, where Phoebe had been living with her married sister, Susan Butler. Phoebe was born in Blount, Tennessee to John and Mary McClanahan. Spencer and Phoebe lived in Freestone, Hunt, and Grayson counties before moving to Tarrant County. Phoebe died 1931-1939.
