Nelson Chamberlain was probably born August 27, 1895 at Wellston, Milton Township, Jackson County, Ohio. The son of George H. and Rachel (Jayjohn) Chamberlain. He was probably named after his Uncle Nelson Jayjohn.
Sometime between 1900 and 1903 he moved to Boomer, Fayette County, W.Va. With his Father and siblings, Theodore and Walter. His mother had died at Wellston probably in late 1899 after the birth of his sister Grace. His father George remarried at Boomer to Jane Ellen Jordan in 1903, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Archibald) Jordan. and they had one child Margaret Cathleen (Chamberlain) Cundiff in 1904. Jane died there after childbirth and his father then married Mary Pritt in 1905, the daughter of Henry Daniel and Nannie Pritt from Cabin Creek, Kanawha County, W. Va.
