METOLIUS - A funeral service for Richard "Dick" William Croxen, 55, a former Metalius resident, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Metolius Friends Church. He died Monday of kidney failure in the Umatilla Hospital.


Croxen had lived in Umatilla since 1974 where he owned the Russett Restaurant. He was born in Bayard, Neb., and served in the Navy during World War II and a member of the Madras Elks and Stanfield Moose lodges. He moved to Metolius in 1950. Croxen was active in your baseball in Madras and was an avid fisherman and hunter.


Still living are his wife, Thelma Joan of Umatilla, and his mother Mary Ann Croxen of Nampa, Idaho. He leaves his sons, Richard Lee of Bend and William Thomas of Springfield; his daughters, Cynthia L. Butler of Bend and Deborah J. Renfro of Springfield, and a stepdaughter, Jo Jean Hubbard of Hermiston. Croxen had six grandchildren.


Also surviving are his brothers, Thomas J. and Edward of Umatilla, and Jerry D. of Salem, and his sisters, Elizabeth E. Allen of Caldwell, Idaho and Twila M. Lyons of Project City, California.


Minister Gene Hockett will officiate at the service. Burial will be at Mount Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Madras.


The family suggested memorials as contributions to any diabetes or youth baseball association.
