Mary was born in East Tennessee. She was the daughter and 1st born of 8 children of Elizabeth/Elisabeth (Short) and Henry Garber.

Mary was united in marriage 25 December 1873 to Robert H Forsyth in Springfield, Clark County, Ohio. They had one adopted daughter Anna who married Victor H. Kelley and second husband William G. Guy.

When Mary's brother Joseph Benjamin Garber returned to Logan County, Ohio with his wife Ellen and their 4 children, Mary's husband Robert gave Joseph his half interest in the family owned grocery store.

DEATH OF MRS. ROBERT H. FORSYTH

Mrs. Mary M. Forsyth, wife of Robert H. Forsyth, passed away at the family home on West Newell street in West Liberty, at 3 o'clock, Tuesday morning, October 17, 1916, aged 63 years, 11 months and 21 days.

She had been a great suffer from heart trouble and other ailments for several months, and bore her afflictions with true Christian fortitude, and was ready and willling to go when the final summons came.

She was the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Garber, and was born in Tennessee, October 26, 1852. Besides the husband she leaves one brother, Joseph B. Garber of West Liberty, and two sister, Mrs. H. L. Kitchen of West Liberty, and Mrs. George Kelly of Goshen, Ind. Also an adopted daughter, Mrs. Anna Kelly, who has made her home with Mrs. and Mrs. Forsyth since a little girl.

Funeral services will be held at the home, Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock standard time, in charge of Rev. W. H. Thompson, of Sidney, and interment will be made in Fair View cemetery.

Note: There are a few descrepancies regards Mary's date of birth and death between a few sources. Regarding her birth, according to her father Henry Garber's bible she was born 26 October, 1851 the same as incribed on her tombstone. As opposed to Mary's Ohio death certificate that records her date of birth as October 26, 1852.

Additionally there is a descrepancy regarding Mary's date of death between 3 sources:

1) Her Ohio Death Certificate File No. 62963 records her date of death as 17 October 1916

2) The Garber Family book compiled 1995 by Philip J. Leib indicates her date of death as 16 August 1916.

3) Inscribed on her tombstone - d. 16 Oct. 1916, same date as The Garber Family book
