State pioneer and early city police sergeant, died Monday at the home of his daughter Miss Inez Montgomery, he had been ill for 3 years. James in 1890 moved from St Joseph Missouri to the farm near Guthrie which his father Cyrus Montgomery had homesteaded in the run of '89. He became a guard at the federal penitentiary at Guthrie and was working for a wholesale grocery firm when he moved to OKC
James entered the Police Department in 1907 and served untill J.C. Walton's administration.
He is survived by three other daughters, Mrs Ruth Stewart, Mrs Hazel Ann Akin & Mrs Anna Waters. One son Owen C. Montgomery
