Funeral service for Ben G. Baldwin, 84, of Cushing will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 14, 2008, at the Dickie Allen Funeral Home Chapel in Cushing with the Rev. Chester Haynes officiating. Burial will be in the McKnight Cemetery in Cushing. Mr. Baldwin died Tuesday, August 12, 2008, in Nacogdoches. He was born April 6, 1924 in Homer, Texas, to George A. and Carrie Ola Nivens Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin had lived in Cushing for the last 21 years and had lived for many years in Louisiana. Mr. Baldwin was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Cushing. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Nacogdoches VFW. He was also a lifetime member of the L.C.I. Association. After the Navy, Mr. Baldwin had worked for many years for Brown & Root Construction and was a pipeline barge foreman. He later started an excavation contracting company and a metal building business. He was a member and past master of the Masonic Lodge 911 of Cushing and was a past member and honorary master of the Bell Chasse, Louisiana Lodge 469. He was a past patron of the Cushing Eastern Star Chapter 368 and the William D. White Chapter 141 in Greta, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mae Herron, Lurley Bailey, Pat Austin and Virginia Gilbert. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Baldwin of Cushing, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Duncan of Cary, North Carolina; sister, Louise McDuffie of Pearland, Texas; three granddaughters, Jenny Duncan, Amanda El Jaouhari and husband, Said, and Melissa Duncan; and three great-grandsons, Zac, Cullen and Tegan El Jaouhari Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews. Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the funeral home in Cushing. Dickie Allen Funeral Home, Cushing.
