Mr and Mrs Doyle Medus received a phone call Tuesday from Gilbert Alvord of Phoenix, Ariz, telling them of the death of Edgar Apperson, 89, at Phoenix.
Mr Apperson famous early pioneer of the automobile industry, spent several summers in Afton as a guest at the Corral Motel. He was accompanied by Mr Alvord. He ranked with Henry Ford, Frank Duryea, Ransom Olds and Barney Oldfield in the automobile hall of fame. It was said of him, "If Edgar Apperson didn't build American's first automobile, he wasn't far behind, and his Apperson Jackrabbit was a car your father will never forget." He was also famous as a car racer.
