His place of birth has been listed variously as Ohio and Kentucky. I believe he was born in Covington, KY. Enlisting in the Union Army at the age of 15, Joseph Baker Williamson soon decided that the service was not something he wished to pursue. His father told that he had made his decision and he needed to see it through. It should be noted that Joseph attended Civil War reunions until they were no longer held. Beginning his career as a farmer, he has also been noted as a magistrate and a sheriff at various times in his life. He and Emily lived most of their lives in Richland County, Illinois and were the parents of nine children.
