OBIT: Middletown Daily Times Press, Wednesday October 17, 1906
At the home of her son, in Matamouas, Pa., at an early hour on Tuesday morning, occurred the death of Mrs. Esther A Snelling, widow of James C. Skinner. Bright's disease was the cause of her death.
Mrs. Skinner was the daughter of Robert and Mary Ann Snelling, and was born in England on the 22d of April, 1840. When very young her parents came to America and settled at Oakland Valley, Sullivan county, where her father's death occurred, and where on the 3d of July, 1856 she was married to Mr. Skinner, then a resident of Port Orange, and who died in Montclair, N.J. last June.
Soon after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Skinner removed to Goshen, where they resided for some time, removing later to Port Jervis and Matamoras. For the past three years their home had been at Montclair. Mrs. Skinner joined the Reformed Church at Cuddebackville, afterward transferring her membership to the Presbyterian Church at Goshen. She was held in the highest esteem by all who know her.
Five children survive her as follows: Abner J. Skinner, of Port Jervis; Robert W. Skinner, of Matamoras; Algie E. Skinner, of Jersey City Heights; Mrs. W.M. Hankerson of this city; Mrs. Fred Balmos of Montclair, N.J. One brother, Robert Snelling, of Pine Bush, survives her, as do also three sisters, Mrs. Henry Fairbrother, of West Danby, N.Y.; Mrs. Nathaniel Beyea, of New Haven Conn., and Mrs. Alexander Case of Pine Bush. Seventeen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, also survive her. The funeral will take place thursday at 1 o'clock at the church at Cuddebackville, with interment at the latter place.
