John Erwin Albers, 78, of Canyon, died Thursday, March 5, 1998.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Wayne J. Pafk, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors of Canyon.

Mr. Albers was born in Canyon. He graduated from Canyon High School in 1938 and from Texas Tech University in 1946 with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering. He served with the Army Air Corps and was discharged in 1945.

He was a lifetime farmer / rancher in Randall County. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Mr. Albers married Hilda Heckmann in 1946 at Waco.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, David Alberts of Hewitt, Jim Albers of Walburg, Larry Albers of Bastrop and John Albers of Fritch; four daughters, Beth Lauterbach of Canyon, Katherine Gaston of LaVeta, Colo., Joan Ryan of Thorndale and Nancy Horton of Schwertner; a brother, Bruce Albers of Mesa, Ariz.; a sister, Phyllis Kroeger of Seward, Neb.; and 22 grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be to the John and Hilda Albers scholarship fund at Concordia Lutheran University, 3400 N. 1-35, Austin, Texas 78705; or a favorite charity.
