Fred L. Palmer

FRANKFORT - Fred L. Palmer, 85, former director of the Clinton County Department of Welfare, died in his home, 250 N. Williams St., at 4:20 p.m. Sunday. He had been ill several months.

Born in Frankfort, he was a life resident and director of the welfare department for 11 years from 1932 to 1943. He was superintendent of the city's parking meter department from 1957 to 1963.

Mr. Palmer, a motorman on the old interurban line between Indianapolis and Lafayette from 1909 to 1920, was married to Mary Ann Wade on 1948 and was a member of the EUB Church and Masonic Lodge. He was the oldest member of the church choir and also taught the Fellowship Class of the church for many years.

Surviving with the widow are a son, Harmon of Rt. 6; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Alice Reddick of Beech Grove and Mrs. Charles Monroe of San Francisco, Calif.; a brother, John of Longmont Colo., and a half sister, Mrs. June Goff of Wesley Manor, Frankfort.

PALMER, Fred L. - Friends may call at Goodwin Funeral Home, Frankfort, from 3 p.m. Monday to noon Tuesday. Masonic memorial rites in funeral home at 8 p.m. Monday.

Body will lie in state one hour before services in Frankfort EUB Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, the Rev. D. E. Littler officiating; interment in Greenlawn Cemetery, Frankfort.

Seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren survive. A son, Raymond; two sisters, a brother and a half sister [this should say half brother] preceded Mr. Palmer in death.
