Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on August 8, 2008 at the age of 81.
He was born in Rising Star, TX to Willie & Oscar E. Starkey. He graduated from Crozier Tech High School and joined the Merchant Marines and later joined the Army during WWII. He retired as a Field Maintenance Supervisor for the City Of Dallas Water Dept. after 33 years.
He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church and served as deacon, elder and every other place when needed.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years June (Winniford) Starkey and three children, Linda Holmgren and Husband Duane, David Starkey and Wife Ginger and Scott Starkey. He is also survived by Grandchildren, Sara and Carson Starkey, Bethany and Jared Thornton, Allison and Matt Lee and the late Chad Starkey, Great Grandchildren Isaac Thornton and Grace and Mattie Lee, brother and sister in law Bill and Quida Starkey and Brothers in law, Douglas & Ray Winniford and sister in law Jeannie Winnford.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 12, 2008 11 AM @ Pleasant Grove Christian Church,1324 Pleasant Drive Dallas, TX 75217. Kurt Johanson officiating, Interment will follow at DFW National Cemetery at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Church.
