Mary Ingles Barton Bullard, 93, of Radford, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2008. She was the daughter of the late Laura Ingles and David Cloyd Barton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rear Admiral George C. Bullard and during World War II, she survived the bombing of Pearl Harbor while he was at sea. While living there she was in the Women's Air Raid Defense and worked in Diamond Head mapping the location of Japanese ships. After an adventurous life as a Navy wife, she and her family returned to Northern Virginia, where she was active in church and volunteer activities. Recently she moved back to the family home in Radford and took active part in preserving the beloved family farm on Claytor Lake. Survivors include four children, Anne Bullard, Laura Bullard, George Bullard and wife, Anna, and John Bullard and wife, Sandra; four grandchildren John, Jr., Catherine, Megan and Mary; new great-grandson, Benjamin Bailey; and many friends and relatives. She will be missed for her courage, sense of beauty and love of life. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 4 p.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Radford with the Rev. David Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow in the West View Cemetery in Radford. The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday August 13, 2008, at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either the Radford Fire and Rescue, 1500 Wadsworth Street, Radford, VA or The Presbyterian Church of Radford, 201 Randolph Street, Radford, VA 24141. The Bullard family is in the care of Mullins Funeral Home & Crematory in Radford.
