Barbara was daughter of Alpheus and Frances Reuss Ponce. She lived in Tuolumne County all through her young years and graduated from Sonora High School. She then attended San Francisco State University where she met her husband. They married in 1961 and moved to Glen Ellen, Sonoma County, in 1964 to raise their family.
Barbara was a Girl Scout leader and a member of the Glen Ellen Community Church for 33 years, serving in various capacities. She also served as a coordinator for Mothers of Preschoolers at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church and was instrumental in starting the Young Life and WyldLife youth clubs in Sonoma Valley.
Over the years, Barbara was a volunteer, library technician and school secretary at Dunbar Elementary School. She also worked at the Sonoma Valley Library and the Sonoma County Office of Education. After her retirement, she frequently substituted in school offices throughout Sonoma Valley.
Family members said she was known for her kindness and sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her father, Alpheus Ponce, her mother, Frances Reuss Ponce, and her brother, Richard Lee Ponce. Richard was her only sibling.
