John was born in Bromberg, in the province of Posen. He made his home in Germany for 27 years, and her was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.

John married Emilie Wodtke/Woodke of Breitinstein on November 25, 1874 in Germany. Together they came to this country in the spring of 1882, settling at Joliet, IL. In 1886 they moved to Fulda where they resided until November 1902 when they moved to Barron, WI. In June 1922 they again came to Fulda to be with their daughter Minnie (Richard) Bender.

Ill from pneumonia for about 12 days, John passed away at his home where he has resided the past quarter century.

John & Emilie's children were: Ida (George) Lober; Minnie (Richard) Bender; Emalia (William) Boettcher; August; Albert; Henry; Richard; Leopold; John; Ella (Ira) Hover; Clara (Robert) Fanello; Helen (Art) Granger; William; Martha (Clyde) Teal; & Amanda Aaserude.
