Born Aug. 14, 1916, in Monroe County, he was the son of James Ernest and Ethel Olive (Carpenter) Freeman.
He was a retired postmaster at the Ellettsville post office and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
An Air Force veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and VFW in Ellettsville.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Lela (Griffith) Freeman; one daughter and son-in-law, Millie D. and John Blair of Rochester, Ill.; a grandson and his wife, Michael D. Blair and Barbara Wallace of Cary, N.C.; one great-grandson, Damon Blair, at home; two sisters-in-law, Mary Freeman and Fern Freeman, both of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James Coleman, George Joseph Freeman and Ernest Glenn Freeman; and two sisters, Rosetla Wheeler and LaVern Kohlstaedt.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Chandler Funeral Home in Ellettsville, with the Rev. Mark Villanova officiating. Burial with military rites will be at Methodist Cemetery in Ellettsville.
