In her father's will, she was referred to as "Amelia," but in almost every other record, she was called Permelia (a nickname for Amelia). Permelia Niblack grew up in Jackson County, and on 22 Oct 1829, she married Benjamin H. Lamkin, a house carpenter from North Carolina who settled in neighboring Gwinnett County in the 1820s. The couple resided in Lawrenceville, the county seat, for most of their lives. They were members of Redland Baptist Church, one of the earliest churches in the county.

Permelia had eight children: William Franklin (b. abt. 1830. d. 1864 in the War) who married Syrena Stanley; James Thomas (1833-1908), who married first his cousin Louisa C. Niblack, second Frances Rebecca (Reeves) Odum; Sarah Ann (1835-1906), who married first Daniel Harris, second Dr. William Parks Bond; Louisa V. (1838-1926), who married Rev. John R. Robinson; Robert Augustus (b. abt. 1839. d. 1864 in the War); Caroline (1842-1897), the first wife of James B. Whitworth; George W., who died young; and Laura C. (1847-1922), who married James Terrell Wood.
