Marcella was born on May 20, 1924 in Buckman, MN to the late Peter and Helen (Hurrle) Sitzman. She grew up in Buckman where she attended Country School until the 8th grade. Marcella was united in marriage to Melvin Flicker on June 28, 1944 at St. Michael's Church in Buckman, MN. She worked various jobs throughout her life, including working in the dining hall at Comstock Hall at the University of Minnesota, clerk at the Red Owl store and Thielen Meats. Her most important job was raising her seven children. Marcella was a self-taught musician. She started playing the organ at age 6 and performed at age 10 at St. Michaels Church. She played in several orchestras, including Dons Concertina Band, Eddies Concertina Band, and the Northern Lights in Brainerd. Marcella played almost every weekend at either Korf’s Bar, the Red Bull piano bar, VFW, Legion and the Vogue in Brainerd. Later in life, she played at St. Joseph’s Church frequently and volunteered her musical talents at nursing homes and senior centers and various Christmas parties. She loved to travel and was fortunate to have traveled to Australia to visit her daughter. She enjoyed trips to Germany, Austria, Mexico and Hawaii, along with many State adventures. Marcella was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Adult Choir, Christian Women, and the Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. Marcella will forever be remembered by her love for life.
