Joseph C. Duncan, of Buckingham county, Virginia, was of Scotch descent. He married Nancy Maddox about 1817, and settled in Christian county, Kentucky, in 1817. In 1829 he removed to Missouri and settled in Callaway county, where he lived the rest of his life. His wife Nancy died in 1860, and he died in 1870. They had nine children, but two of them died before they were grown. The names o f the other children were, Elizabeth A., Frederick W., Ouslow G., Jerome B., Artemesia, Merrett B. and Edward. Joel and Richard died before they were grown.

John married Ann Stratton on 21 Jun 1809, in Powhatan County, VA. She died the next year (1810). (No burial or memorial, so far, exists for Ann.)
John's parents were Edward Duncan and Elizabeth Curd.
He is listed in the 1860 census in District 18, Callaway County, MO. Listed with him is Nancy, age 70, born in VA and Edward, age 26, born in MO. Also listed with them is Judith Maddox.
