First Lieutenant Menceslaus Anthony Gerlach served as a B-17 aircraft Bombardier during WWII.
On 30 November 1944, his B-17 #44-8409 was shot down by enemy anti-aircraft fire on a bombing mission to Zeitz, Germany.
1LT Gerlach and five crewmates were Killed in Action. Three crewmates were captured and held as Prisoners of War until being liberated in May 1945.
