"Gene was the son of Harold and Helga (Johnston) Butterfield. He graduated from the Cameron High School. On January 27, 1945 he married Helen Lois Nighswonger. They were the parents of two children, Larry (and his wife Elaine) of Ladue, and one daughter, Cheryl Cooper of Chandler, Arizona; four grand-children, four great-grand-children; one brother, Harold of Fort Pierce, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Byron.

Gene had been the owner and operator of the G. F. Butterfield Grain Elevator in Meadville and Wheeling, Mo. He was veteran of World War II, as a pilot in the US Army Air Corp from 1942-1946. He belonged to the United Methodist Church in Meadville." Written by Judy Youngs Woody
