He was a native of Carter County, but spent most of his life in Greene County.
Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Air Force for four years from 1955-1959, and worked for Gulf Oil Distributors for many years of his life.
His family said, "He loved farming, being outdoors, and spending time with his family. He had a special love of animals and children. Herb will always be remembered for his deep love and devotion to his family, and especially for his love of God.
"Herb was a born-again Christian and a member of Lovelace Baptist Church in Fall Branch."
He was a son of the late Jack Lee Taylor and the late Arabelle Taylor.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years: Mima Jean (Gouge) Taylor; two daughters and one son and their spouses: Deborah and Glenn Hillman and Darryl and Yendiame Taylor, all of Fall Branch, and Barbara Charlton and Rick Jones of Kingsport; five grandchildren: Jeremy Thornburg, Melony Cox, Nikki Charlton, Brad Thornburg, and Derrick Taylor; three great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives: Carl and Darlene Taylor and Kenneth and Phyllis Taylor; several nieces and nephews.
