Catharine Hansen was born in Luddorf, Schleswig Holstein, Germany on March 30, 1863 and died at her home at the age of eighty five years, four months and twenty five days. She came to America in 1882 to Boone County, Iowa. On September 1, 1882 she was married to Mr John Hansen. This marriage was blessed with ten children of who eight survive both parents. Mr Hansen preceeded her in death by nine years and two children died in early childhood.
Mrs Hansen was baptized and confirmed in Germany in the Lutheran faith. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church south of the Loup river as long as this congregation existed. She remained true to her faith to the end. The family lived four years near Fremont and came to Nance County in 1890. They retired from active farming in 1920 but lived on their acreage south of Genoa since that time.
Surviving are, two sons and six daughters and one sister, Mrs. Veda Schulz in Germany. The sons are: John D Hansen, Genoa and Herman Hansen of Clarks, NE. The daughters are: Mrs. Anna Westmeyer, Platte Center, Mrs Catharine Kohl, Clarks, Mrs. Emma Goodell, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mrs. Bertha Boettcher, Genoa, Mrs Mary Dittmer, Clarks and Mrs Martha Juhl, Silver Creek. Also surviving are twenty-five grand children and twenty-two great grand children.
