Funeral for Olivia Speegle Taylor, 84, of Decatur will be Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at 2 p.m. at New Friendship Baptist Church in Somerville with the Rev. Tommy Smothers and the Rev. Dewitt Crowe officiating and Shelton Funeral Home directing. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in New Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Taylor, who died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at Parkway Medical Center, was born Jan. 17, 1924, in Priceville to Luke Speegle and Alma Sandlin Speegle. She was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church.
Mrs. Taylor loved sewing, gardening and cooking. She loved the Lord and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ollie Taylor; two brothers, Charlie "Buster" Speegle and Sandlin Speegle; and three sisters, Pearl Rowe, Iles "Ike" Henderson and Roselle Baldwin.
She is survived by two sons, Clyde Taylor and his wife, Jo Rhe, and Steve Taylor and his wife, Denise, both of Somerville; brother, William "Bill" Speegle of Hartselle; granddaughter, January Dumas and her husband, Jason, of Decatur; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Jaidyn Dumas of Decatur.
Pallbearers will be Henry Pryor Speegle, Paul Jack Speegle, Billy Tom Blankenship, Curtis Slaten, Jerry Knighten and Paul Ellis Knighten. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Rowe, William Curbow, James "Red" Speegle, Jimmy Wayne Speegle, Billy Joe Lambert and James Ralph Henderson.
