Troy industrialist and philanthropist Edward Alvah Hobart, 96, Hobart Brothers Company Chairman of the Board, died at his home. Mr. Hobart was born in Middletown, on Christmas Day, to Charles Clarence (C. C.) and Lou Ella (Jones) Hobart. Mr. Hobart, his brother, William, and their father, C. C., founded the Hobart Brothers Company in 1917. Battery chargers were the company's first products, the firm then became a multi-national leader in the welding and power-generating industry. He was a fromer President of the company; served as director or committeeman on many boards besides the company. He was a member of many organizations. His wife, the former Martha Lantis, whom he married in 1921, preceded him in death in 1979. Also preceeding him in death was his brothers, William H. and Charles C. Hobart.
