Funeral service for Pvt. Carl V. Riney, World War II veteran who was killed on Luzon in the Philippines April 24, 1945, will be held in the National cemetery Wednesday at 2 p. m. with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge. The body will arive at 5 p. m. tomorro and will be taken to the Schmidt Memorial Home. Born December 20, 1919 he was the son of Walter C. and Mary Marcus Riney and came to Keokuk from Kahoka, Mo. eight years before entering service on April 26, 1944. He received his basic military training at Camp Roberts. After a short furlough at home he was shipped overseas November 6, 1944 and saw action in the South Pacific theatre. He was killed in action against the Japanese. He attended school in St. Patrick, Mo. In 1941 at Kahoka he married Nola B. Gatton. He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic church. Surviving are his former wife who has since remarried, his father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Walter C. Riney of Keokuk; a daughter, Beverly Ann Riney; three brothers, Charles of Keokuk and Herman of Syracuse, N. Y. both of whom were in service and Pfc. Bernard Riney who is with the U. S. army in Germany; a sister, Mrs. Nick Sommers of Granger, Mo., and other relatives. His mother preceded him in death.
