Helen Ann Bookout Edwards
Services for Helen Ann Bookout Edwards will be 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, at the Nazarene Church in Chelsea. Burial will follow in Chelsea Cemetery under the direction of the Chelsea Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday 2 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Edwards died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center in Ponca City at the age of 61. The daughter of Alpheus and Grace Thacker Bookout was born March 3, 1940, in Warner. Helen attended and graduated from Warner High School in 1958. Immediately after graduation, she married her high school sweetheart Roy Edwards on May 17, 1958, in Stigler.
After marriage, they resided in several states due to Roy's service in the Navy. Helen and Roy lived in many communities in Oklahoma in which Roy served as a minister with the Nazarene church, including Chelsea from 1972 to 1974. Their last move was to Ponca City where Roy currently serves as pastor. Helen worked as cashier at Big Lots. Her hobbies included working in her flower beds and beautiful yard, garage sales and helping anyone that needed a helping hand — nothing was too small or too hard.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
Helen will be missed and is survived by her husband, Roy of the home; daughter and son in-law, Sandy and Ronnie Shoptaw of Ponca City; son and daughter in-law, Randy and Cheryl Edwards of Chelsea; grandsons, Ryan Shoptaw of Ponca City, Arron and Addam Edwards of Chelsea; granddaughter, Amanda Edwards of Chelsea; sisters and brothers in-law, Lahoma Whorton of Tulsa, Naomia Beal of Chelsea, Bob and Barbara Barnes of Chelsea, Rose and J.C. Abram of Vinita, and Louise and Ben Tidwell of Choctaw; plus a host of nieces and nephews and extended family that will miss her dearly.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Nazarene Church, 401 S. Perry, Ponca City, Okla. 74601.
