Jonathan Daley Stearn, 53, of Sturgeon Bay passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008, at his home.


Jon was born Nov. 2, 1954, in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Richard A. Stearn and Suzanne S. Smith Stearn. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1972, where he was a member of the state champion downhill ski team. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating with a degree in Nuclear Engineering.

Jon worked as an engineer at R.A. Stearn Inc., in Sturgeon Bay, a naval architectural firm founded by his father. He also worked at Stearn Sailing Systems, working closely with his brother Leathem. Jon was the owner of Stearn Computer Consulting, and he was an adjunct instructor at NWTC in Sturgeon Bay, teaching math, science and computer applications.

Jon is survived by his daughter, Carmen Stearn (and her mother, Mary Lauder Stephenson) of Fond du Lac; his brother, Leathem S. Stearn of Westport, Conn.; his brother, Eric A. Stearn of Madison; his sister, Margaret F. Stearn of Menominee, Mich.; his niece, Sanna (Mark) Schlosser of Truckee, Calif.; and nephew, Anders Burggren of Seattle, Wash.

Jon loved his daughter unconditionally and his family wholeheartedly. He was passionate about sports. Jon was an avid tennis player, an accomplished skier and a master ping-pong player. Jon was a most kind hearted and intellectual gentleman. He made many friends on the tennis courts and ski hills, and he will be fondly remembered.

A celebration of his life will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday (August 12, 2008) at Huehns Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp officiating. Burial will follow in Bayside Cemetery.
