INSCRIPTION:
"This Nobel youth was among the
first to enlist in his country's
defense against Northern invasion.
He was a member of the 5th Regiment
S.C.V. and did his duty as a soldier
faithfully and died as a sacrifice
on the altar of Liberty for which
his memory will ever be cherished
by all who knew him. He possessed a
vigorous intellect, an unblemished
Moral character and was a member of
the Baptist Church."

Thomas was killed in battle.
