Emma was born to Ufke Gerhard Hinrichs and Wükbe Margaretha Hillers on 2 May 1882 in Sangamon County, Illinois. Her parents immigrated from Germany. Sometime after arriving in American, the parents Americanized their names to George and Margaret [sometimes Maggie]. The surname was changed from Hinrichs to Hendricks. The surname is misspelled on the stone as Henricks.

She was baptized 14 Aug 1882 in the Trinity Lutheran Chrch in Springfield, Missouri as Engel Margaretha Hinrichs. Sponsores were Caroline Hillers (stepmother of Emma's mother) and Johan Balthas Henrichs (not sure who he was.

She was 9 years 11 months and 7 days old when she died. I do not know the cause of death but suspect it could have been scarlet fever. There is no proof of that though.

It must have been a sad day when her parents left Illinois in 1893 to move to Colorado and they had to say good by to their daughter Emma.
