From Shipmate Jack Davison

Dick and I were shipmates when he commanded the Marine detachment of USS Saratoga (CV-60) during cruises to the 1957 NATO Strikeback exercise and the 1958 Mediterranean deployment. He commanded a Battalion in Viet Nam at the siege of Khe Sanh and was particularly proud that his men were so well trained that none was the victim of a booby trap. He was then provost marshal in Yokosuka, Japan. The last time I saw him he was Executive officer of the Marine Officers' Basic School at Quantico and the the Special Services Officer of the entire Marine Corps Schools station.
