Sgt Jones was a member of Capt. Webster's company; served Sept. 13 to Nov. 1, 1813. No record of "where served" but probably in Conn.
Drayton Jones fell through a scaffold over the barn floor, alighting on the cylinder of a threshing machine while it was in motion. He was mangled and torn in a shocking manner. He lived, however, about four days.
He was a prominent Mason and was the 3rd person to preside over "Northern Star #58," at Barkhamsted, Conn.
Drayton Jones was an energetic, positive, and progressive man. Upright in his dealings, he won the confidence and respect of his neighbors and townsmen, who profoundly lamented his untimely death. His wife was a daughter of The Hon. Robert & Clymena Wilcox. [Mr. Wilcox was a prominent man where he resided in Connecticut; served Barkhamsted as selectman numerous terms, and represented the town in the general assembly in 1807, 1810 and 1811.]
